Matthew Gets Loud about Bipolar Disorder and Alcoholism

Woodstock, New Brunswick

Matthew is a recovering alcoholic and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2005 (although he has been living with it all his life). After diagnosis, Matthew tried multiple prescription drugs, which were not effective. He then decided to try non-traditional treatments and to change the way he was living. He meditates daily, eats healthy food and exercises regularly. Matthew became a Reiki master healer and chooses to live each day mindfully.

Many great things have happened to me since that change, and my meds were significantly reduced.”

Matthew has recently become a Community Regional Worker for CMHA Woodstock. He also began a peer support group and has opened a holistic health studio where he provides Reiki healing sessions.

Matthew has written an e-book called How to Thrive with a Mental Illness. It is the book that he wished he had when he was diagnosed in 2005.

“I struggled for years. I’ve done a lot of research. I’ve done a lot of reading. I’ve done a lot of trial and error. I’ve done a lot of suffering. And now I’m doing great and I want to share why I’m doing great.”[1]
