NELSON PETERS’ STORY
Nelson, a New Brunswick lawyer, has been dealing with mental illness and addiction for some time. As Nelson puts it, “one of the ways I cope is to write.” Last year, when his son Axel turned one, Nelson wrote him a letter that talks about their family history and Nelson’s history of mental illness and addiction. Nelson hopes that one day Axel will read this letter – he will know that he is not alone and can talk to someone about any mental health issues and he will know that his father loves him.
NELSON GETS LOUD
Nelson contacted us with his letter, hoping that he could help GET LOUD about mental illness.
“I know that as a professional there is a strong stigma to mental health and addiction, but I also feel very strongly that being open and honest about the challenges involved is the best way for me to deal with them.”
